The Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) is the nation’s premier system of health-related telephone surveys that collect state data about U.S. residents regarding their health-related risk behaviors, chronic health conditions, and use of preventive services. Established in 1984 with 15 states, BRFSS now collects data in all 50 states as well as the District of Columbia and three U.S. territories. BRFSS completes more than 400,000 adult interviews each year, making it the largest continuously conducted health survey system in the world.

CDC WONDER (Wide-ranging ONline Data for Epidemiologic Research) makes the information resources of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) available to public health professionals and the public at large. With CDC WONDER you can access statistical research data published by CDC, as well as reference materials, reports and guidelines on health-related topics, and query numeric data sets on CDC's computers. Public-use data sets about mortality (deaths), cancer incidence, HIV and AIDS, tuberculosis, vaccinations, natality (births), census data and many other topics are available for query, and the requested data are readily summarized and analyzed, with dynamically calculated statistics, charts and maps.

The Global Health Data Exchange (GHDx) is a data catalog created and supported by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME), an independent global health research center at the University of Washington.

The Global Health Observatory (GHO) data repository is the World Health Organization's gateway to health-related statistics for its 194 member states. It provides access to over 1000 indicators on priority health topics including mortality and burden of diseases, the Millennium Development Goals (child nutrition, child health, maternal and reproductive health, immunization, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, neglected diseases, water and sanitation), noncommunicable diseases and risk factors, epidemic-prone diseases, health systems, environmental health, violence and injuries, and equity.

HealthData.gov is dedicated to making data discoverable and making valuable government data available to the public in the hopes of better health outcomes for all.

KFF (Kaiser Family Foundation) is a nonprofit organization focusing on national health issues, as well as the U.S. role in global health policy. KFF develops and runs its own policy analysis, journalism and communications programs, sometimes in partnership with major news organizations. KFF serves as a nonpartisan source of facts, analysis and journalism for policymakers, the media, the health policy community and the public.

The National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) compiles statistical information that is used in research by a broad audience including health professionals, policy makers, physicians, health providers, and researchers.

The State Health Access Data Assistance Center (SHADAC) at the University of Minnesota is funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to help states understand factors associated with health and health care. SHADAC's State Health Compare is a tool for obtaining state-level estimates related to health and health care—such as insurance coverage, access, cost, utilization, and outcomes—as well as equity and economic measures.
